SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of leading police on a high speed chase through two counties was arrested for intoxication, officials reported.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Kurt Patrick Terrebonne, 47, of Louisiana was driving his white pickup truck on northbound I-15 Saturday afternoon when a Provo Police officer noticed he was not driving safely. The officer attempted to pull Terrebonne over, but the man continued driving at freeway speeds toward Salt Lake City.
Once the truck arrived in Salt Lake County, UPD said a Utah Highway Patrol trooper began following Terrebonne and attempted to pull him over at 9000 South. Terrebonne failed to yield and maintained his speed.
The trooper followed him while he waited for backup to 2100 South, where he again attempted to pull Terrebonne over. The driver ignored this third attempt as well.
Two other troopers then attempted to slow the truck down while one deployed spikes in the HOV lane near 400 South. Terrebonne saw the spikes, however, and he swerved into the next lane occupied by one trooper to avoid them. The truck sideswiped the trooper's vehicle, damaging the driver's side door.
That trooper then turned into a PIT maneuver, causing the truck to spin out and stop. Troopers took Terrebonne into custody on suspicion of DUI.
