CLINTON — A Utah family is out a Christmas yard ornament after someone took Mater the Tow Truck from their yard over the weekend. The family wants it back, and they wrote a poem to bring attention to the crime.

Many of the houses along 1520 North in Clinton have yards decorated to the max for the Christmas season. The Oxborrows believe their yard was targeted because no other lawn ornaments in the neighborhood were stolen.

Early Saturday morning, someone stole the lovable Disney "Cars" character Mater ornament that Ginette Oxborrow special ordered to add to the other characters in her yard. She is so upset over the theft she penned her feelings in a poem.

"As we rose in the morning to see the fresh fallen snow, a track of footprints; and away the must have drove," she read. "When much to our wondering eyes died we see an empty space where Mater should be."

The Oxborrows aren't quite sure who might have taken Mater the Tow Truck, but they wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a juvenile trick.

"I think it's just kids just thinking they're having fun," Ginette Oxborrow said. "But it's not fun, and it's not funny."

"If somebody were to come knocking at my door and say that they really liked him and they wanted him or something," I probably would've given it to him," she added.

The Oxborrows spent a few thousand dollars on their yard display. Now, all their excitement is dampened by this missing hole in the presentation.

"It's our way of saying Merry Christmas to all of our neighbors and friends," Ginette Oxborrow said. "(It's) kinda sad to see that people take from others."

The Oxborrows reported the incident to police but they really have no recourse.
