DRAPER — An elderly man accused of running over and killing a man working in a storm drain in April was booked and released from the Salt Lake County Jail over the weekend per a court summons.

John P. Amos, 83, was charged last month in 3rd District Court with negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor.

On April 18, Thayne Hansen was working in the storm drain of the Draper Spectrum shopping center, 11950 S. 150 East, when he was struck by a vehicle. Police say the driver, Amos, had entered the parking lot in an area that wasn't intended for vehicles to use.

Investigators determined Amos "intentionally left the roadway on 150 East and drove over a sidewalk, down an embankment and over the storm drain where Mr. Hansen was working," according to charging documents.

Prosecutors do not believe that Amos intentionally hit Hansen.

An arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 29.
