RANDLETT, Uintah County — A high-speed chase along Highway 40 led to the arrest of two men early Sunday morning.

The Uintah County Sheriff's Office said that at around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, a deputy saw a vehicle speeding west of Vernal. The vehicle refused to pull over when lights and sirens were turned on, police say.

A deputy pursued the vehicle along Highway 40 and then onto SR 88, reaching approximately 90 mph. The driver of the vehicle was swerving into oncoming lanes, according to the Uintah Sheriff's office.

The driver eventually stopped at a Pelican Lake Fuel Station where a deputy held the driver and passenger at gunpoint until backup arrived. However, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and get on the ground when ordered to do so, according to the Sheriff's office.

The deputy then threatened to deploy a canine, at which point the driver complied.

"It was very obvious that the driver was being non-compliant and putting the deputies safety in jeopardy," said Corporal Dustin Cheshire in a release. "Canine Jax's presence and aggressive demeanor during the incident kept all the deputies safe and allowed for a positive outcome."

Leander Harvey Post, 27, was arrested pending investigation of evading an officer and driving under the influence, both felonies, as well as "numerous" other alcohol-related violations. The passenger, Adam Gardner, 28, was arrested on investigation of alcohol-related violations.
