SALT LAKE CITY — Two 18-year-olds, a male and female, were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in a parking lot but police know little about the suspects who fired at them.
Salt Lake City police Lt. Carl Merino said the pair was sitting in a Mazda hatchback parked behind a closed coffee shop near 602 E. 2100 South when the shooting occurred. The man was shot in the upper arm, the woman was hit in the upper body and the cheek.
Police say witnesses report two cars were parked in the lot and the occupants may have been talking before the shooting occurred, Merino said. Police have little information about the suspect vehicle or how many people may have been involved in the shooting.
The two victims drove themselves to a gas station at 502 E. 2100 South to seek help, entering wounded and bleeding to make the call at about 8:20 p.m., Merino said.
The victims' names have not been provided. Police will continue to interview them after they receive medical treatment and are seeking additional information from witnesses.
