LEHI — Kids in Utah County may have set a world record tonight while bringing a new book to life.

Brandon Mull's books — the Fable Haven series and Candy Shop Wars — are a hit, and to bring his latest book to life, Mull became a human target in a record breaking marshmallow fight.

More than t2,000 people joined in to launch The Candy Shop Wars.

"I got to bean my little brother on the head," said marshmallow fighter Katelyn Barnard.

The obstacle course illustrates the story plot: warriors race through the candy maze to reach the trophy at the end. Events like this are part of a new style of book launch. Candy Shop Wars even has a video trailer.

"We spent two days filming and we got to go to Boondocks and do the arcade scenes. We got to ride our bikes around and it was really fun," said Aybra Cox, an extra in "The Candy Shop War."

The goal is to get kids to read the book, and when they do, they say new worlds are opened up.

"He brings it like to life in your imagination; it's awesome," said marshmallow fighter Christian Barnard.

That's why The Candy Shop War is part of KSL's Read Today program — the more kids read, the more they can learn. Plus, it's always fun to throw a few marshmallows.
