PROVO, Utah (AP) - One of the two young men accused of setting potentially deadly booby traps along a popular hiking trail in Utah has been sentenced to 20 days in jail.
Twenty-year-old Benjamin Rutkowski was also ordered Wednesday by Judge Lynn Davis to complete a year of probation and pay $760 in fines, according to the Provo Daily Herald.
The Orem resident had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in the Fourth District. The second defendant, 21-year-old Kai Christensen, is set to be sentenced next week.
U.S. Forest Service officers say the two men set the traps in May in a canyon trail near Provo. One was rigged to send a 20-pound, spiked boulder swinging at head level. The other was designed to trip a passer-by into a bed of sharpened wooden stakes.
