OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff's Office deployed two search and rescue teams Tuesday night to retrieve a 21-year-old man who got stuck hiking and his father who went looking for him.
Lt. Mark Lowther said the 21-year-old was hiking in the hills northeast of Ben Lomond High School and called his father as he began his descent. As darkness began to fall, the father became worried and went looking for his son. Both men were caught by darkness, and the father lost cell phone contact with his son.
By 9:30 p.m., Lowther reported that crews had located the father and brought him down safely. Vocal contact had been established with the 21-year-old through shouting, and crews closed in on his location. The man was reluctant to make his way down the mountain in the darkness.
The young man was brought down from the mountain at about 10:30 p.m. He had no apparent injuries but was mildy dehydrated.
Officers were staging operations from the foot of the mountain at 1550 E. Douglas St.
