DAVIS COUNTY — Deputies from Davis County were called to rescue a young deer trapped in a manhole Thursday morning.

The rescue was captured on video by the responding deputies as they attempted to help rescue the deer using climbing rope.

"We're rigging a rope and we're going to hoist him out we hope," said one of the deputies, who was identified as Cory on their YouTube video.

The rope was attached to Cory, who used his body as leverage to hoist the young deer out. The deer struggled as the deputies attempted to lasso the deer, but was later hoisted to safety. The deer appeared scared, but was unharmed and hopped into the woods.

Without help from the deputies, the deer would have likely died. The deputies were given the option to put the deer down, but chose to rescue it.

"He was no worse for wear and was able to bounce off into the woods," one of the deputies later said while speaking to KSL Newsradio.
