BOISE, Idaho -- The final was 7-6 at Bronco Stadium in Boise and it might have been uglier than the score dictated, but here are some takeaways.
-The BYU defense is really good. Not just good, really good, and bordering on elite. Boise hasn't been held without a touchdown since they became and FBS school in 1996.
-Riley Nelson didn't have it tonight. Whether it is just over for his saga, or it was a bad night. He was awful. 4-9 and four turnovers.
-Taysom Hill might be next, but he isn't right now. Hill showed a lot of promise leading the Cougars on a really good scoring drive that produced the only score for BYU. But, he needs a little more work to be the guy.
-Bronco still favors his defense. His show of emotion is rare and it was all about the defense.
-Why go for two? Ride the emotion and execute for one play. Losing timeouts killed the team, they burned them for no reason early on.
-Ziggy Ansah should be more of a known name, especially by BYU fans. He had just one sack, but he controlled blockers playing the 3-4 defensive end. This is a track star taking on multiple blocks and making plays. He is coming into his own.
