LAS VEGAS (AP) - A man accused of running over a Utah police officer with a stolen vehicle in 1999 is being returned in custody from Las Vegas to Utah to face criminal charges.
Sgt. Craig Martinez says the 36-year-old known to police in Orem as Reinhold Neumann was on his way Thursday to Utah County Jail.
Now Neumann is in the Utah County jail, prosecutors can schedule a hearing before the judge, to get the case against him finally going.
"Our only concern is he hasn't been able to answer those charges yet and hopefully now we will do our job and the court system will work and we will keep him in jail until he has his hearing," Sgt. Martinez said.
Neumann had been sought on several warrants, including one charging him with attempted murder of a police officer.
He was arrested Aug. 30 while working at a Las Vegas Strip casino restaurant under the name Joaquin Lopez-Caraballo.
Neumann had been arrested in Pasadena, Calif., in 2003 and returned to Utah, but was freed on $50,000 bond and disappeared.
Police say he was identified in Las Vegas after a recent arrest on a drunken driving charge.
