PROVO — Brigham Young University improved its place in the annual U.S. News and World Report rankings in multiple categories in 2012, improving to an overall 68th in the nation.

The 68th-place ranking is an 11-spot improvement over the past five years. The university's accounting program ranking remained at 3rd in the nation, and its undergraduate business program improved by five spots for a 31st ranking.

The university also improved to 5th in the nation for the least amount of debt, compared to being ranked 8th in 2011. With annual tuition and fees of about $4,500, BYU is the 4th-least expensive private college or university in the nation. The school ranked 15th in the "Great Schools at Great Prices" category, which considers the value of education for the price paid.

The University of Utah was again ranked 125th in the nation overall and 60th in the nation among public universities. The school's college of engineering improved two spots to 64th in the nation, and the undergraduate business program held the 72nd position on the list.
