KAMAS, Utah (AP) - Two young boys are injured after falling out of an SUV their mother was driving on Mirror Lake Highway.

Utah Highway Patrol officials say an Acura SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 150 east of Kamas about 3 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say the tailgate of the vehicle opened up for some reason and items started falling onto the road.

Officials say a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy got out of their seatbelts and were apparently trying to keep things from rolling out when they fell onto the road.

Troopers say the boys had minor cuts and bruises and were taken to a hospital by helicopter.

Authorities say the 5-year-old was in a booster seat, while the 3-year-old wasn't. The driver was cited for not using a safety seat.
