SARATOGA SPRINGS — Firefighters at Saratoga Springs Fire Station 1 win a High 5 this week.
Crews throughout the city have dealt with wildfires from the beginning of the summer. Earlier this month, storms caused flash flooding that filled some homes with mud.
"It's been a very busy season for us, something that's not only challenged us but challenged our community," said Chief Jess Campbell.
Cleaning up from the recent mudslides has been a lot of work. Hundreds of volunteers joined the effort.
"I think the silver lining in this is how our community has come together," Campbell said, "not just our community, but our community in the fire industry. We've been helped by so many agencies across the state."
He said the effort has created a family of sorts within the fire industry and the community.
Another firefighter at Station 1 said, "Mother Nature takes over and makes it difficult for everybody. Our hearts go out to people who were devastated by the mudslides."
The crew at Station 1 received a gift basket full of goodies and a gift certificate to Costco, courtesy of our High 5 partner, Les Schwab. If you'd like to nominate someone for a High 5, do so here.
