PARK CITY — Police are investigating allegations that a man attacked a woman while she was riding in a mountain bike race Saturday.

The woman, from Colorado, was in the Sweeney switchbacks portion of the Point 2 Point Mountain Bike Race when she says she was attacked by a white man wearing red shorts. According to police, the woman claimed the man jumped out from the trees onto the trail, knocked her off of her bike and then began punching her in the face.

She was able to escape, climb back onto her bike and ride to the next checkpoint, where she told her husband what had happened, and he reported the incident.

Police are looking for anyone with details about the man, and say they have had a hard time contacting the victim in Colorado to get any more details.

Race organizer Jay Burke says people frequently use these trails safely.

"It is a shame that something like this has happened," Burke said.
