SANDY – As Real Salt Lake prepares to face Major League Soccer opponent D.C. United this weekend, a couple of the RSL veterans made headlines this week.

RSL captain Kyle Beckerman in the spotlight

RSL captain, midfielder and fan favorite Kyle Beckerman will be spotlighted by NBC Sports Network as reported by the club Thursday. The network has chosen Beckerman to be part of the "MLS 36," a series where it follows an MLS athlete around for 36 hours and produces a day-in-the-life-of episode.

Thursday morning marked the beginning of the 36 hours Beckerman will be followed around by NBC Sports Network and will run through the Claret and Cobalt's match Saturday as it hosts MLS opponent D.C. United.

RSL also reported that, as of now, the episode that will feature Beckerman does not have an air date yet.

This season has seen Beckerman tally four goals, four assists, 28 shots and seven shots on goal in 24 matches for RSL.

Beckerman has been with the Claret and Cobalt since 2007 after playing for the Colorado Rapids from 2002-07 and with the Miami Fusion from 2000-01.

RSL midfielder Ned Grabavoy was also in the headlines this week as he was featured in an article on SI.com. Sports Illustrated writer Alecko Eskandarian featured Grabavoy in an article as one of the league's underrated players.

Eskandarian wrote that Grabavoy fits the RSL club and Kreis’ style well. Also noted by Eskandarian was that the midfielder provided the middle of the field a “compliment RSL sorely needed after Andy Williams retired.” Grabavoy was the second on the list of 11 MLS players featured in the article.

This season Grabavoy has seen minutes in 22 matches and starts in 18, totaling 1,613 minutes. The 29-year-old RSL midfielder has also tallied three assists and five shots. Grabavoy has also not received any yellow or red cards yet this season.

Grabavoy has been with the Salt Lake club since 2009 after playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2004-06, the Columbus Crew 2006-08 and then one season for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2008.

The club will be in the spotlight inside the walls of Rio Tinto Saturday night as it hosts D.C. United.
