SALT LAKE CITY — Wednesday night, KSL honored one of their own.
John Hollenhorst, senior correspondent, was inducted into the Emmy Silver Circle in the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The organization honors "exceptional work" and works to bring together individuals "dedicated to advancing the art and science of television."
As always, however, Hollenhorst deflected the praise.
"All of what you see on the air is such a huge team effort that I always feel that I'm just one player among many and if it comes out well it's because a lot of people did their job well," Hollenhorst said.
Hollenhorst has been at KSL continuously since 1986 and frequently covers science and environmental issues. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, and fell in love with the Intermountain West during a tour of duty when he was sent to Dugway Proving Ground. He returned to Utah 1975 after he graduated from the University of Minnesota, driving a Yellow Cab for a year before getting hired at KSL answering telephones, shortly after becoming a television reporter. He left KSL in 1980 and returned in 1986.
Hollenhorst has received numerous awards for his excellent work, including The National Headliners Award, and was named by the Society of Professional Journalists as Utah's "Best TV Reporter" three years in a row.
