OREM — The opening of Clear Horizons Academy will change the future of education for autistic children in Utah County. The dedication and open house for the new school was on Thursday.
Autism impacts one in every 88 children across the nation. In Utah, our rate is much higher with one in 47 being afflicted by this disorder. Public school teachers typically have a difficult time accommodating the needs of an autistic child in the classroom, and have difficulty giving them the attention they require.
Clear Horizons Academy will give hope and help to these local children and their families. It is a nonprofit school that offers each child a tailored education with the therapeutic services they need to succeed in life.
Clear Horizons Academy will occupy ten acres of land next to the Cherry Hill Farm. The land was donated by a couple whose granddaughter was diagnosed with autism. The school building will include five classrooms designed to meet the specific needs of autistic children.

Clear Horizons will serve families from Provo, Orem and Alpine, but will take students from other parts of the state, as well. 50 students are enrolled at the school, but there is room for 25. The administrators hope to expand over the years and build a high school.
Several dignitaries and community leaders spoke at the dedication of Clear Horizons Academy including Orem City Mayor, Fraser Bullock, Provo City Deputy Mayor, Dixon Holmes, and also UVU's president, Matthew Holland, along with several others.
Clear Horizons Academy is located on 1875 South Geneva Road in Orem.
