SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Hogle Zoo's female snow leopard, Nema, underwent surgery to have stones removed from her kidney and ureter, a condition common in humans but rare in large cats.

The surgery took place at the University of Utah and went well. Nema will recover back at the Hogle Zoo.

Because this procedure is new to veterinary medicine but routine with humans, the zoo says it partnered with Dr. Blake Hamilton of the University of Utah's Department of Urology to perform the procedure.
