HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AP) -- A Utah military advisory panel says a popular Hill Air Force Base aerial show should be grounded due to funding concerns.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that a letter from the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee puts the Sept. 24-25 event on the budget chopping block.
But a top air base commander, Col. Patrick Higby, tells the newspaper a final decision hasn't been made.
The letter says the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes to put on the show would be better spent on quality-of-life and infrastructure improvements at the base south of Ogden.
The paper said the Utah Legislature appropriated $50,000 for the show. If it is canceled that money will be returned to the general fund.
The air show features the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Army Golden Knights.
It drew more than 400,000 spectators in summer 2009, and officials had announced it would be back in 2011.
