(KSL News) -- Police are searching for a man who stole ammunition from a Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale.

Police say a man dumped 15 to 20 rounds of ammunition into his pockets and took off.

An officer and his police dog spotted the man running out of the store and started chasing him through an apartment complex and over several fences, but he lost sight of the man. The officer said he saw a gun in the man's waistband.

Police searched the area from 7200 South to 7500 South and from State Street to 200 West.

They thought he may have gone inside a house or apartment in the area.
