SALT LAKE CITY -- UFC 140 had knockouts, submissions and a broken arm on Saturday. The event at Air Canada Centre in Toronto was action packed, like every UFC card.

The first fight of the night was Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung. If Pay-Per-View watchers or attendees blinked, they were sure to miss the whole fight. It took only seven seconds (tying a UFC record) for the South Korean native to put the Canadian Hominick out on his back. As exciting as the event started out, it would only get better.

The co-main event of the night was former UFC Heavyweight Champ Frank Mir vs. Antonio Nogueria. Although the fight was over in the first round, it had back-and-forth action. Mir and Nogueria faced each other once before in 2008.

The UFC 140 matchup began when Mir and Nogueria came out of their corners looking to keep it standing. That seemed to be the plan until Mir was rocked by a combination that put him on the canvas. Nogueria went in for the kill after a skilled scramble on the ground, and Mir ended up with a tight kimura submission. The hardnosed Nogueria wouldn’t tap and it eventually costs him is arm, which Mir would go on to break. Mir gave Nogueria his first TKO and submission victory.

Nogueria’s twin brother, Antonio Nogueira, tweeted about his brother’s condition after the fight.

“We’ve just had a medical diagnosis,” Antonio Nogueira wrote. “He said he would prefer not to do surgery, that [the bone] will calcify by itself and that in five months, he’s fighting again.”

The main event of the night was between the young Jon Jones and karate master Lyoto Machida for the light heavyweight (205-pound) title belt. Jones comes out of his corner with an unusual crawl he used in his last fight, as well. Machida circled cautiously and waited for his time to attack. After a few exchanges and kicks, Machida landed a big over left hand that stumbled the champ. The second round would be more of Machida jumping in and out of the pocket quickly. Jones eventually got Machida to the ground and landed a good elbow, which cut Machida above the eye. The referee stepped in and called a doctor into the cage. The fight continued after an OK from the doctor but didn’t last long. While in the clinch, Jones locked up a modified guillotine choke that took out Machida. Jones retained his title for the second defense in his short and dominant career.
