PROVO — A BYU student was killed Saturday after falling 70 feet while climbing near the Stewart Falls in Provo Canyon, officials said.

Adam Perazzo, 22, of Fallon, Nev., was climbing without a rope with a group of friends when he fell, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Eldon Packer. His friends witnessed the fall and attempted to give aid to the man until authorities arrived.

Packer said responders from the North Fork Fire Department and Utah County Sheriff's Office attempted CPR, but after 45 minutes were unable to revive Perazzo. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
