SALT LAKE CITY — A West Valley City man faces a slew of charges after police say he bit off his ex-girlfriend's lower lip during an altercation in front of the woman's child.
According to charges filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court, John Manual Marquez Sr. asked his ex-girlfriend if he could visit her at her West Valley City apartment.
When Marquez arrived, the woman "could smell a strong odor of alcohol," and he admitted to her that he had "a few shots," charges state.
The woman asked Marquez to leave, but he refused and kissed the woman, according to the charges. When the woman pulled away, Marquez got hold of her lower lip with his teeth and bit it off, the charges state.
He then began to punch, kick and push the woman throughout the apartment, according to the charges. The woman's child, a minor, was present during the incident.
Marquez is charged with single counts of mayhem and burglary, both second-degree felonies; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; violent offense committed in presence of child, a class B misdemeanor; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.
He's being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $200,000 bail.
