KEARNS — Police were looking Tuesday for a man who allegedly pointed a shotgun at a couple after they accidentally cut him off in traffic.

About 11 a.m., the driver of an SUV was making a turn onto 5400 South from 4800 West and had to quickly get into the far lane to make a left turn, said Unified Police Sgt. Lt. Justin Hoyal. In doing so, the SUV may have cut in front of another vehicle, the driver and passenger told investigators.

That vehicle, a black Subaru WRX, in turn, cut off a third vehicle and then quickly sped in front of the first couple to get in front of them again and cut them off, Hoyal said.

The Subaru continued down a residential street, where the driver made a U-turn and went back to pull along side the SUV.

The couple in the SUV pulled over into a day care parking lot near 4800 West and 5200 South in an effort to get away from the man. Instead, the Subaru driver pulled into the parking lot, too, Hoyal said.

"He gets out and swears at them, points a shotgun at them," Hoyal said.

The man then drove off.

Detectives were looking Tuesday afternoon for a white man in his early 20s with short brown hair, last seen driving a black Subaru WRX with a blue pin stripe, chrome rims and a spoiler.

Anyone with information can call the sheriff's office at 801-743-7000.
