SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were charged with using fraudulent Social Security numbers to obtain employment, driver's license renewals and loans.
According to charges filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court, Andres and Alan Sanchez, age 23 and 46, were both charged with four counts of identity fraud, a second-degree felony, as well as multiple counts of communications fraud, a second-degree felony.
The two men allegedly used Social Security numbers that were not assigned to them to obtain employment with Salt Lake-based organizations, where they worked for a number of years, and obtain mortgage and automobile loans totaling more than $206,000.
Andres Sanchez admitted to police that he knowingly used a Social Security number that did not belong to him and that he believed belonged to someone else, the charges state. He also admitted to illegally residing in the United States.
The Social Security numbers were identified by the Social Security Administration to belong to two individuals. Representatives of the Utah Department of Public Safety were also listed as witnesses in the charges.
