EAGLE MOUNTAIN — More than 30 people were arrested after the Utah County Sheriff's Office recently set up a sobriety checkpoint in Eagle Mountain.

The checkpoint was set up on State Road 73 starting at 1 p.m. Friday and going through to midnight. The site was chosen specifically due to the high amount of traffic in the area running between Utah and Tooele counties.

The roadway is also popular as a route to the Five Mile Pass area, which is often used by campers and off-road enthusiasts.

Most of the sobriety checks took less than a minute and involved questions about what drivers had consumed that may impair their driving, deputies said. If deputies suspected anything, they asked motorists to pull to the side of the road while they conducted an investigation.

Deputies arrested four people for DUI, 19 for drug-related offenses and 11 alcohol-related arrests. Four people were booked into jail, four vehicles were impounded and four traffic citations were issued. There was also one felony firearm arrest.
