Utah State fell to 25th ranked Louisiana Tech tonight, 84-61, but the bigger loss came with 6:03 left in the game when junior forward Spencer Butterfield re-aggravated a hip injury and had to be carried off the court by his teammates.
Butterfield got tangled with Chris Anderson while positioning for a rebound and went to the ground, landing awkwardly on his hip. After several moments of writhing in pain on the floor, Butterfield attempted to walk off under his own power but couldn't do it.
"He is in a ton of pain," coach Stew Morrill said after the game. "They are taking him to the emergency room. He has had a hip problem he has been playing through and was going to fix it after the season."
Butterfield was averaging 12.2 points per game this season and 17 points per game in conference play. He also had a streak of 5 straight double-doubles at one point this season and had 6 total double-doubles this season. Butterfield is the fifth Aggie this season to go down with an injury.
