Dres Anderson named to Biletnikoff Award watch list

SALT LAKE CITY — Senior wide receiver Dres Anderson continues to bring in the pre-season recognition, being named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list Tuesday morning.

Anderson, who was named to the Maxwell Award watch list last week, joins six other Pac-12 athletes also named to the award watch list: USC's Nelson Agholor, Cal's Chris Harper, Arizona's Austin Hill, Stanford's Ty Montgomery, Oregon State's Richard Mullaney and Arizona State's Jaelen Strong.

Anderson had a strong year last season, receiving for 1002 yards, averaging 15.4 yards per catch and 5.7 rushing yards in his career at Utah. Last season, Anderson averaged 18.9 yards per catch and had 7 receiving touchdowns.

The Biletnikoff Award is presented to the top receiver in the country. Only 55 athletes were named to this year's watch list.

The Biletnikoff Award is one of 21 annual awards sanctioned by the National College Football Awards Association. Over the next two weeks, watch lists for 15 of the awards will be released as follows:

Wed., July 16: Davey O'Brien Award

  • The Davey O'Brien Award is presented to college football's top quarterback, voted on by the Davey O'Brien Foundation. The first award was given to Jim McMahon of BYU in 1981. Last season, Jameis Winston of Florida State was presented the award.

Thurs., July 17: Doak Walker Award

  • The Doak Walker Award is presented to college football's top running back. The first award was given to Greg Lewis of Washington in 1990. Last season, Andre Williams of Boston College was presented the award.

Fri., July 18: Walter Camp Award

  • The Walter Camp Award is presented to college football's Player of the Year, voted on by NCAA head coaches. The first award was given to O.J. Simpson of USC in 1967. Last season, Jameis Winston of Florida State was presented the award.
