KSL Coaches Poll: Big week for Utah County teams

SALT LAKE CITY — Some big wins by Utah County teams caused the greatest movement in the KSL Coaches Poll.

Top five games to watch this week
Weber at Brighton Friday 7pm (GNL Game of the Week)
This is a great matchup of ranked teams early in the season who could see each other again in the playoffs.Sky View at Provo Friday 7pm
Another game between two ranked teams in December that could meet again in March. Provo upset Sky View in the first round of last years playoffs.Spanish Fork at Desert Hills Saturday, 6pm
It's not a stretch to say this could be a 3A state championship preview. You won't find a better early season matchup in 3A.Highland at Olympus Tuesday, 7pm
It doesn't matter whether these teams are ranked or not they always seem to have close, intense battles when they play each other. Viewmont at Bountiful Friday 7pm
Another intense rivalry game that could come down to the final seconds.
Top five performances of the week
Alejandro Llamas Salem Hills
Llamas scored 39 points with six 3-point shots in a 58-57 win over Wasatch. Wade Miller Bear River
Miller scored 28 points with six 3-pointers in a 84-64 win over LoganJake Miles Morgan
Miles scored 30 points including four 3-pointers in a 71-47 win over Park CityEric Mika Lone Peak
scored 29 points and hauled in 11 rebounds in a 79-37 win over Cottonwood. Ty Henry Spanish Fork
Henry scored 26 points including six 3-pointers leading the Dons to a big win over Bear River.

Provo went on the road and knocked off American Fork in a 78-74 overtime thriller. The Bulldogs move up to No. 2 after the win.

Orem fell short against Lone Peak in the Great Western Shootout but they were very impressive in their other games and remain No. 1 in 4A.

Timpview moves up one spot to No. 3 giving Utah County and Region 8 the top three teams in 4A.

Sky View moves up to No. 4 and Bountiful is back in the top five at No. 5.

Spanish Fork almost moved up to the top spot in 3A after a big win over Bear River. The 5-0 Dons are the only undefeated team left in 3A. They are No. 2 behind No. 1 Judge, who fell this week for the first time against Riverton.

Desert Hills drops to No. 3 after suffering their first loss of the season to a Springville team that just missed moving into the top five in 4A. They are followed by Bear River at No. 4 and Morgan at No. 5.

Lone Peak remains No. 1 in 5A and continues to climb up in the national polls. The Knights are now ranked 2nd the country by MaxPreps.com and 8th nationally by USA Today. They went 3-0 at the Great Western Shootout knocking off Foothill, Nev., Denver East, and Orem by an average of 25 points.

The next three in the top five remain the same. Davis is 5-0 after surviving a tough test at Bingham on Friday.

Brighton is No. 3 followed by Weber. The Bengals and Warriors will go head-to-head on Friday.

American Fork moves into the top five despite the tough overtime loss to Provo.

There is a new No. 1 in 2A. Wasatch Academy is of to a 5-0 start including an impressive 20-point win over No. 4 South Summit. South Sevier gained valuable experience against big schools at the Great Western Shootout but returned home with three losses dropping them to No. 2 in the poll. Manti moves up to No. 3 while 4-0 Beaver moves into the rankings at No. 5.

Defending champion Layton Christian remains No. 1 in 1A followed by Duchesne, Monticello, Panguitch and Bryce Valley. Duchesne earned a big win over Panguitch at the 1A preview on Saturday.
