(KSL News) The attorney for a Utah man accused of starving his fiancee's disabled daughter says her client was in a drunken stupor at the time.
She says Michael Bowden was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder from serving in Iraq and did not intentionally hurt the 5-year-old girl while her mother was serving in Iraq. She also says Bowden was suffering flashbacks and depression and drank heavily.
Prosecutors say that Bowden's behavior reflected knowing indifference to the girl.
The little girl, who has cerebral palsy, dropped from 35 to 13 pounds during the four months in Bowden's care. She has since gained back that weight.
