Paul Nelson, KSL Newsradio A potential lawsuit against talk show host Sean Hannity is off, but a production team doing a documentary about Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson says they still want him to apologize.
The dispute is over one specific phrase Sean Hannity reportedly said about two private Utah figures on April 27. "He labeled the production company of Gavry and Monroe a propaganda team," says attorney Patrick Shae. He says propaganda is, by definition, a distortion of the truth. "That false light, that false impression has injured them," Shae says.
Shae says Gavry and Monroe don't have the resources to fight a long court battle. Instead the company is asking for a broadcast apology, a written retraction and a donation of $10,000 to teach prospective journalists about truth in broadcasting.
But, Shae says there's room for debate on whether a documentary production company would be classified as private figures.
