PARK CITY — Some reports are showing a drop in estimated bookings in Park City for the holidays. But tourism officials are not too worried about it, saying it could just be an anomaly this year.
Officials from the Park City Chamber and Visitors Bureau were quoted in the Park Record as saying estimated lodging numbers are down 33 percent from last year. But tourism officials say it might just be because Christmas is on a Tuesday.
Utah Office of Tourism Managing Director Leigh von der Esch said, "I think it's a calendar issue with the bookings for Christmas in Park City because it's not falling on a weekend."
Von der Esch predicts more people will come after Christmas.
"A lot of schools aren't going back because New Year's is in the middle of the week," she said. "I think people are framing the week that they take off during the Christmas holidays a little differently."
She also said the state is getting a lot of free press about recent storms that have hit. Plus, TV ads about Utah's slopes will be hitting the airwaves in other states soon.
"Our television campaign will start in the first week in January in Los Angeles and New York," von der Esch said.
