SALT LAKE CITY — Out of all the speculation floating around about who the next coach for the Utah Jazz will be, one particular name stands out as one of the more interesting storylines - former Jazz point guard Earl Watson.
Now of all the names of the possible coaching candidates floating around, Watson's name isn't just a rumor - he himself brought it up.
Watson is 34 years old, just finishing his 13th season in the NBA backing up former Weber State star Damian Lillard and former Jazzman Mo Williams in Portland.
During his exit interview with the Trailblazers, Watson talked about retiring and heading right into coaching, noting that he has kept in close contact with some of the Jazz players this season.
Watson said that if given the opportunity to coach the Jazz, he would enlighten management on a blueprint to assemble a veteran coaching staff to help him get through the rigors of having never coached in the league. He even went as far to say that he already has a guy in mind for his top assistant.
Meanwhile current Jazzman Gordon Hayward told CSNNW.com Friday that he is "definitely pulling for Earl to get the job."
"If he did become our coach and I got to play under him, it would be great because I know how hard he’ll work and prepare us."
Regardless of how this current situation plays out, it appears that the coaching speculation for the Jazz is starting to get fun.
