SALT LAKE CITY — With the name of the sport in its title, you might expect "In Football We Trust" to be another movie about the gridiron and winning championships.
But that's not it at all.
With their movie set to premiere at Sundance, Jeremiah Jensen sat down with the makers of "In Football We Trust."
"I think what was most compelling about our subjects was that they were the most vulnerable during the most challenging times of their lives," the film's co-director Erika Cohn said. "It's really a day-in and day-out portrayal of their experiences from their senior year in high school until college. I think our audience will find them very compelling and very honest."
In other words, don't expect the film to be just another sports movie.
"Our culture is very talented at football, and it is a unique opportunity for all of us," film director Tony Vainuku said. "But at the same time, there is so much more to our culture. Anything else we pursue should be used carefully; football is an opportunity, but it shouldn't be the end-all, be-all."
