Valeika named 1st team All-Big Sky

Three Weber State men's basketball players earned All-Big Sky Conference honors for the 2007-08 season. The teams and honors were announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Big Sky Conference office. The teams were voted upon by the league's head men's basketball coaches.

ARTURAS VALEIKA (6-9, 225 Sr. - Forward / Vilnius, Lithuania) was named to the six-man First Team. DEZMON HARRIS (6-1, 175 Sr. - Guard / Fort Worth, Texas) was Second Team and DAVIIN DAVIS (6-4, 205 Jr. - Forward / Midland, Texas) earned Honor Mention honors.

Valeika was the leading rebounder in the Big Sky Conference this season both in overall games (10.0 rpg) and in the 16 regular season games where he averaged 11.3 and had two 20 rebound games during the season at home vs. Montana and this past Monday on the road vs. Sacramento State. He averaged 9.8 points per game overall and shot just over 49 percent from the field. His season high scoring game was 22 against Youngstown State. Valeika earned Honorable Mention All-Big Sky Conference honors last year as a junior.

Harris was WSU's leading scorer this season averaging 10.9 points per game overall and 12.8 during the 16-game Big Sky Conference season. He had a season high 27 points in WSU's 78-76 win on the road vs. Montana State. Harris was the Big Sky's third best overall free throw shooter at .814 (70-86), and was FIRST in Big Sky games-only at 42-48 (.875). He was 44-99 (.444) from the three-point line overall and 30-64 (.469) in league contests.

Davis came on strong during Big Sky league play. He averaged just 8.4 points per game overall but 10.8 in the 16-game Big Sky regular season schedule. He scored a career high 23 in WSU's 73-68 home court win over league champion Portland State. He was 59-79 (.747) from the free throw line but jumped that up to 82.3 (51-62) in league play. He led WSU in dunks with 19.

Portland State's JEREMIAH DOMINGUEZ (5-6, 155 Jr. Guard) was named the league MVP and also the Top Newcomer becoming the first player in Big Sky Conference history to be accorded those two honors in the same season. Dominguez transferred to PSU last season from the University of Portland and sat out the 2006-07 campaign as a red-shirt. Portland State center SCOTT MORRISON (6-11, 250 Sr.) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year and Sacramento State guard VINNIE McGHEE (6-1, 170 Fr.) was named the Freshman of the Year.
