Kansas City hands Blaze 4th straight loss, 60-41

KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Brigade (6-4) had four first-half interceptions and outscored the Utah Blaze 26-0 in the second quarter on the way to a 60-41 victory in front of 13,655 fans at the Kemper Arena on Saturday night.

"We clearly didn't come to play tonight," said Blaze head coach/general manager DANNY WHITE. "I am pleased with how we came out in the second half, but it is now a must-win situation for us. We'll have to go to work this week and turn this thing around."

Kansas City QB RAYMOND PHILYAW was named Offensive Player of the Game by completing 20-of-27 passes for 263 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions. DB NICK WARD was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game by recording 6.0 total tackles and two interceptions. The Ironman of the Game went to WR BOO WILLIAMS, who recorded three receptions for 30 yards, three touchdowns and two assisted tackles.

Kansas City opened the scoring with a 12-yard pass from Philyaw to Williams to take the early 7-0 lead. The Blaze (5-6) answered when WR TOM PACE scored from four yards out to even the game at 7-7. A CHARLES FREDERICK touchdown gave the Brigade a 14-7 lead after one quarter.

The Brigade then held the Blaze scoreless in the second quarter while putting up 26 points to take a 40-7 halftime lead.

Utah came out in the second half and outscored the Brigade 34-20, but came up short.

Utah QB JOE GERMAINE finished the night by completing 31-of-53 passes for 325 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions. WR SIAHA BURLEY led Blaze receivers with 11 receptions for 124 yards and three touchdowns, while Pace finished with nine receptions for 91 yards, one receiving and one rushing touchdown.

The Blaze return home to the EnergySolutions Arena to face Western-Division foe, Las Vegas Gladiators next Friday, May 18 at 7 p.m
