PROVO — BYU Athletics spent the last few days of 2012 raking in good news for the new year.

Aside from the Cougars' trouncing of Virginia Tech in basketball and the rumored return of Kyle Van Noy was the confirmed return of wide receiver Cody Hoffman for his senior year.

"Proud to announce that I'll be returning to BYU for my senior year with my boys!" Hoffman tweeted Friday.

Prior to the Poinsettia Bowl, Hoffman was leaning either way on whether he would return to finish his final college football season or enter the NFL Draft alongside teammate Ezekiel Ansah.

Apparently Hoffman, the offensive MVP of the bowl game, left San Diego hungry for more, declaring his return to the team first to KSL, followed by a confirmation to his home town paper, The Triplicate.

"The atmosphere, just having the support everywhere we go, it doesn’t get better than this," Hoffman told KSL. "I don’t see why I wouldn’t come back for my senior year."

Hoffman's numbers at the end of his junior season were all career highs: 100 receptions, 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those numbers contribute to his placement at fourth on BYU's list of receptions (203), third in touchdown receptions (28) and fifth in receiving yards (2,718).

Come next fall, Hoffman needs 19 receptions, 541 yards and three touchdown passes to break the current BYU all-time records.

Though roughly ranked 10th out of the 351 wide receivers, the junior from Crescent City, Calif., will up his NFL stock even more starting Aug. 31, assuming no injuries come knocking.

Granted Ross Apo, a fellow wide receiver, has plenty of talent, and Hoffman's decision to stay will help the Cougs recuperate after their loss of 22 seniors, including popular names like Ansah and James Lark.
