PROVO — BYU announced Monday that their Homecoming football game against Oregon State will be the team's first Blackout.
Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game and the Cougars will wear newly designed black uniforms for the game against the No. 14 ranked Beavers.
"The uniform was designed to have the same striping and maintain an element of tradition, while also creating a fun atmosphere for the team and the fans," said BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall. "Our plan is to wear the uniforms for this one game."

Mendenhall makes it sound like the black unis are a one-time deal, but many thought the same thing when the Cougars wore the royal blue uniforms against Utah in 2009. The Cougars sported those uniforms again during their bowl game against Oregon State.
According to a press release on BYUCougars.com the Athletic Department plans on selling the uniforms to members of the Cougar Club and then the general public with all proceeds going back into the football program.
Following the Utah State game Friday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium special "blackout" shirts will be available and also at the BYU Bookstore.
What do you think about the black alternate uniforms? Do you like the new look or do you think it's a mistake?
