VIENNA (AP) — Austrian emergency crews say a fire has broken out on a Danube River cruise ship, forcing the evacuation of nearly 200 people. They say eight people had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

They say the blaze broke out Monday west of Vienna in the sauna area of the A-Rosa Riva cruise ship. Fire crews and other emergency response teams evacuated 150 passengers and 39 crew members to another riverboat that dropped anchor nearby.

Ralph Schuller of the Austrian Automobile Club says two club helicopters have flown the two most seriously injured people to hospitals. He says all the injured are crew members who tried to put out the flames.

The vessel is registered in Germany and cruises east from Germany to the Danube Delta on the Black Sea.
