BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Two more Irishmen have been charged with Irish Republican Army-related offenses as part of a lengthy eavesdropping operation by MI5.

The British spy agency, which leads anti-terrorist intelligence efforts in Northern Ireland, says it recorded conversations at several meetings of a splinter group called the Continuity IRA inside a house in the border town of Newry. Eight men allegedly identified on the recordings previously were charged with IRA membership and conspiracy to kill, cause explosions and import weapons.

Kevin Heaney was charged Thursday with receiving training in the manufacture and use of homemade bombs. Beside him in the dock in Newry Magistrates Court, Terence Marks was charged with conspiring to cause an explosion.

The 41-year-old Heaney and 54-year-old Marks both were charged with IRA membership and denied bail.
