BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say at least 19 people are dead after a pair of car bomb attacks at a police checkpoint near a pet market in Baghdad.
Five policemen were killed in the first attack, carried out by a suicide bomber. The attack wounded nine others. Seconds later, a car bomb near the market killed 14 shoppers and passers-by, wounding 35 others and killing dozens of pet birds.
Security forces sealed off all of the roads leading to the attack site.
