LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas man who admits using sex tapes to extort hush money from a prominent businessman is asking a federal judge to spare him prison time because he agreed to keep the victim's identity secret.
U.S. District Court officials are recommending that Ernesto Joshua Ramos get 21 months in prison at his sentencing Thursday.
Ramos' attorney, Gabriel Grasso, is seeking probation.
Grasso calls the case unique because of the effort made to keep the victim's identity from becoming public.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/28NfdBy) that the defense attorney wrote that the businessman would be further victimized if the facts became known.
The FBI alleges that Ramos' girlfriend videotaped herself having sex with the man in October 2014 at a hotel outside the U.S.
Ramos pleaded guilty to later seeking $200,000 with threats to post images on social media.
