RIDGEFIELD, Wash. (AP) — Officials say tests show elevated lead levels in drinking water at two schools in Ridgefield, a small town about 16 miles north of Vancouver.
Ridgefield School District officials said in a news release Wednesday that several samples from Ridgefield High School and View Ridge Middle school were found to have lead levels higher than recommended by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
The district says immediate actions were taken to prohibit drinking from all faucets at the schools and is providing bottled water for staff and visitor use until the problem is fully resolved.
The district also says it's following state Department of Health guidelines for sampling water, addressing high lead levels and informing the community and health officials. Officials said a report about the levels would be on their website Thursday.
