Empty tank ends high-speed Utah chase of motorcyclist

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A high-speed pursuit of a motorcyclist in Utah County ended when the suspect ran out of gas.

The Daily Herald of Provo reports (http://bit.ly/1ZGUPCu) that a police officer on Friday ran a license plate for a motorcycle traveling on Interstate 15 in Springville.

The license plate came up expired with no insurance information.

Authorities say the officer attempted a traffic stop when 53-year-old Arthur Dalton Howery allegedly fled for 20 miles, reaching speeds as high as 95 mph.

Deputies say the motorcycle ran out of fuel near Spanish Fork.

Howery then abandoned his motorcycle and ran back down a freeway on-ramp.

Utah County Sheriff's deputies detained him.

Howery, of Salt Lake City, has five outstanding felony warrants.

He is expected face charges of failure to stop and other related counts.
