LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 38-year-old Nevada state prison inmate known by several names was accused Tuesday of killing three people in a Las Vegas apartment during a drug robbery nearly six months ago.
Police, family members, friends and a local church leader returned to the West Las Vegas neighborhood to identify Gerald Jamone Pointer as the man responsible for the Dec. 7 triple homicide.
He's accused of killing married couple Marty Cornell Young and Charlita Lashunda Carroll, and DeAndre Leggett in a robbery that police said stemmed from trade in crack cocaine.
Young, Carroll and Leggett were reported to have been kneeling or prone on the floor of a cramped kitchen when they were shot at close range with a handgun.
Witnesses reported seeing a man dressed in dark clothing running afterward through an alley near B Street and Owens Avenue.
Las Vegas police Lt. Dan McGrath said police obtained a warrant May 24 charging Pointer with murder, robbery, burglary and illegal possession of firearm. An arraignment date wasn't immediately set, and it wasn't clear if Pointer had a lawyer. He has represented himself in other court proceedings.
Prison records show that Pointer has also used names including Leroy Greenwood, Jamone Simms, Jamon Chambers and Ammon Hall, and that he was returned to prison in recent weeks on a parole violation.
As Leroy Greenwood, Pointer was sentenced in May 2005 to five to 20 years in prison for robbery with a deadly weapon.
Records showed the three people he's accused of killing each had a criminal record, including felony convictions for Young in 2013 for drug trafficking, and an attempted murder conviction in 2003 for Carroll.
Young, 37, also used the first name Morty. Carroll, 35, represented herself in court in Las Vegas before she was sentenced in 2003 to four to 10 years in prison. Leggett, 38, used the name Deandre Millise Leggett at sentencing last year to 10 months in jail in a misdemeanor battery case.
