PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey school bus driver safely evacuated 22 high school students minutes before the bus became engulfed in flames.

Jose Rodriguez of Paterson had just picked up students at Paramus High School Monday afternoon when he saw smoke.

Police say the fire began in the bus engine compartment. Rodriguez pulled over in front of Eastbrook Middle School and ordered everyone to evacuate through the rear of the bus.

Police say the fire doesn't appear suspicious. No one was hurt. The bus was completely consumed by the flames.
