UNION, W.Va. (AP) — The Monroe County Commissioners are forming a committee tasked with studying the county's emergency medical services system.
According to a media release issued by the commission on Monday, the committee was formed after representatives from EMS system Union Rescue approached the county about the unit's financial problems. Union Rescue blames the funding trouble on reductions in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates.
Commissioner Shane Ashley says committee will study how the county is delivering and funding EMS now, and will determine how to best handle EMS services in the future.
The county commission has asked the EMS committee to provide a written report of its findings once the study is complete. Ashley says a timetable for completion of the study will probably be established at the committee's next meeting.
