CLEVELAND (AP) — The mother of a black Cleveland boy who was carrying a pellet gun when he was shot and killed by a white police officer has testified before a grand jury that is deciding whether to charge the officer.
That's according to the lawyers representing Samaria Rice, whose son Tamir was fatally shot by Cleveland patrolman Timothy Loehmann in November 2014. The statement from the Chandra Law Firm says two of Tamir's siblings also testified before the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County grand jury Monday.
The grand jury has been meeting since October. It will decide if Loehmann should face criminal charges for shooting Tamir within two seconds of a cruiser skidding to a stop near the boy at a recreation center.
A spokesman for the county prosecutor's office declined to comment Monday.
