CHESTERVILLE, Md. (AP) — Authorities say they seized more than 700 marijuana plants with a street value of about $1.4 million this summer from an illegal growing operation in eastern Maryland. No arrests have been made.
Police said Monday they discovered the plants Aug. 20 on abandoned property in Chesterville.
According to police, investigators searched a house there and found an indoor growing operation in the basement, where plants were started before being moved outside. Police say the property was overgrown and the home covered in plywood.
Investigators say that several days of surveillance before the marijuana was seized didn't reveal anyone coming or going from the property. A pit bull guarding the marijuana fields was taken into custody by Animal Control officials and has been adopted, authorities say.
